Our Journey

Our story at MTD Brands, LLC began in 1945 in California, at the dawn of the industrial age. During this time, the agricultural industry introduced preservatives into natural foods to prolong their shelf life, impacting both human and animal consumption.
In 1982, our family established our company, quickly becoming frontrunners in the oilseed extraction, refining, fabrication, and rebuild industries. The cornerstone of our process has always been the cold processing technique for all varieties of oils from seeds, nuts, and plants. By this time, the oilseed industry was catching on to heating and chemical extraction methods to elevate production and consumption, but we chose to deliberate carefully about these new practices.

The Cold Press Debate

Our family company took significant time to thoroughly discuss the merits and pitfalls of cold pressing versus heat and chemical extraction processes. It was apparent that applying extreme heat in the extraction process could potentially break down the natural molecular chains of oils. Subsequently, stabilizing and preservative chemicals would be added to these oils, inevitably degrading their inherent quality.
Although processing and refining companies often claimed high recovery rates from these chemicals, these statements were measured against industry standards. They were not necessarily aligned with understanding the long-term health implications.

Global Insights

Over two generations, our team has been taught the intricacies of oil extraction from various seeds, nuts, and plants. We've witnessed firsthand the global shifts and implementations within the industry and their subsequent effects on multiple generations of consumers.
Our extensive travels in the oil extraction industry shed light on some critical insights. We learned of the advanced methods employed by Eastern civilizations—methods steeped in history, often for thousands of years, to extract oils organically for medicinal use. This global perspective reinforced our belief that listening to the body's reactions to different methods and products is imperative.
MTD Brands, LLC eventually embraced these lessons, learning that there was an organic means to extract the same oils without using chemicals. We proudly use cold processing and water or steam distillation to create our handcrafted products. Producing in small batches allows us to harness the complete natural properties for stabilization.
